PDP Seeks INEC Recognition for Turaki-Led Committee

The Board of Trustees of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of Adolphus Wabara, has filed a suit in the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the interim national working committee led by Kabir Turaki. Justice Salim Ibrahim has set July 7 as the date for the hearing of the pending application related to this substantive suit, which was filed on June 4.

The plaintiffs, including Wabara, former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, and others, argue that INEC is constitutionally bound to recognize the Turaki-led committee following a court judgment that upheld the suspension of certain party officials for gross misconduct. The PDP is requesting that INEC update its records to reflect the interim leadership and comply with a letter dated May 4.

The court has warned against further delays and emphasized the urgency of the matter in light of the upcoming 2027 general elections.
