WAEC Denies Restricting Subjects for 2026 WASSCE, Urges Public Disregard

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has refuted claims circulating on social media about restricting subjects for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). WAEC's Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adeshina, dismissed the reports as unfounded assumptions and emphasized that the council has not directed schools to limit subject combinations for the upcoming exam.

WAEC clarified that it is focused on developing and modifying the senior secondary school curricula, with core subjects like English Language, Mathematics, and Civic Education remaining compulsory. Additionally, WAEC introduced 35 trade subjects to enhance students' practical entrepreneurial skills, with at least one trade subject mandated per candidate.

Schools are encouraged to upgrade their facilities to meet the requirements for the 2026 examination, including ICT resources. The organization also urged proprietors to seek funding and support from ICT partners to enhance their schools' capabilities.
