Super Falcons Fall to Malawi in WAFCON Opener

The Super Falcons, Nigeria's women's national football team, suffered a surprising 3-2 defeat to Malawi in their opening Group C match of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Tuesday. Midfielder Esther Okoronkwo expressed disappointment over the loss, noting that the team entered the match as favorites but failed to perform adequately.

Malawi's Temwa and Tabitha Chawinga were instrumental in the victory, with Temwa scoring two goals and Tabitha contributing one. For Nigeria, Rasheedat Ajibade and substitute Uchenna Kanu scored the team's goals.

Okoronkwo stated that the team needs to improve for their next game, acknowledging they came out "a little flat." She also commented on a penalty incident where she was brought down in the box, expressing uncertainty about the referee's decision but choosing not to dwell on it. The Super Falcons aim to learn from this experience and perform better in their upcoming matches.
