Super Falcons Coach Madugu Blames Missed Chances in Loss

Justine Madugu, the head coach of the Super Falcons, expressed disappointment following his team's elimination from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after a 1-0 defeat to the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium on Sunday night. The decisive goal came from Myriam Nyadjou, who scored from a free-kick in the 19th minute.

Cameroon’s goalkeeper, Michaely Bihina, delivered an outstanding performance, thwarting Nigeria's attempts to score. Following this victory, Cameroon advanced to the semi-finals, where they will face hosts Morocco in Rabat on Wednesday night, and they have also secured a spot in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

In contrast, the Super Falcons will have to compete against Banyana Banyana of South Africa in a play-in match for another chance to qualify for the World Cup. Madugu lamented the missed opportunities, stating that the outcome could have been different if the team had converted their chances.
