Wakama Inducted into Wake Forest High School Hall of Fame

Wakama has been inducted into the Wake Forest High School Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026, which includes notable figures like Graham Bunn and Ron Daniel. The induction ceremony took place on a Tuesday, where Wakama expressed gratitude for the support she received throughout her journey, attributing her success to divine guidance.

At 34 years old, she has rapidly risen in her coaching career, currently serving as the head coach of D'Tigress and an assistant coach for the Chicago Sky. In 2023, she made history by becoming the first female head coach of D'Tigress and the first Nigerian to lead a women's national team to an AfroBasket title, winning the championship against Mali with a score of 78-64 in Abidjan in August 2025.

Under her leadership, Nigeria also reached the quarter-finals at the 2024 Olympic Games, becoming the first African team, male or female, to achieve this milestone. Following Nigeria's triumph in the 2025 AfroBasket Championship, players received a cash bonus from President Bola Tinubu, including a $100,000 bedroom flat for players and a $50,000 housing allocation for the coaching staff.
