Customs Reforms: Trade Modernisation Project Central Focus

Wale Adeniyi, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, declared that the Trade Modernisation Project (TMP) is a central pillar of ongoing reforms designed to transform customs operations through technology and automation. Speaking at an open workshop in Abuja, Adeniyi described the TMP as a comprehensive, technology-driven initiative aimed at eliminating inefficiencies, simplifying processes, and creating a predictable trade environment.

He stressed the importance of stakeholder understanding and participation for the project's success. The TMP aligns with the service's broader commitment to meet global standards amid increasing demands for efficiency, transparency, and accountability in international trade.

Adeniyi also highlighted the role of media in shaping public perception and promoting informed discourse around customs reforms. Deputy Comptroller General Timi Bomodi and Abdullahi Maiwada, former Deputy Comptroller General, also participated in the workshop, which aimed to deepen journalists' understanding of the TMP and its expected impact on trade facilitation and economic growth.
