Coalition Demands Release and Investigation of Walida

A coalition of groups, including the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), has called for the release and investigation of Walida Abdulhadi, who went missing in December 2023 when she was 16 years old. Her father, Mal Abdul Hadi Ibrahim, received a call in December 2025 informing him that Walida was in Abuja and had become pregnant.

The family plans to marry her off to Ifeanyi, the alleged abductor, leading them to approach the Jigawa State court for her release. The coalition has warned the Department of State Services (DSS) against obstructing an independent investigation into the alleged abduction.

Ustaz Yunu Salahudeen emphasized the need for due process and transparency, highlighting the importance of protecting minors under child protection laws. The coalition expressed concerns about the DSS's ability to conduct a fair investigation due to its involvement in the case.

They also criticized the public discourse surrounding Walida's age, which has shifted from 16 to 22, complicating legal protections.
