Nigeria Begins Evacuation of Citizens from Iran Amid Tensions

The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced the evacuation of Nigerians wishing to leave Iran, as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman and CEO of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), disclosed this development on Tuesday.

The evacuation process is being coordinated by the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, which will assist Nigerians departing the country and escort them across the Armenian border to ensure their safety. This decision comes amid growing concerns over the security situation in the region, particularly following a series of coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28, which reportedly triggered retaliatory missile and drone attacks across parts of the Middle East.

Despite these tensions, Dabiri-Erewa reassured that no Nigerians in Iran have been affected by the ongoing hostilities. The embassy officials remain stationed at the border to facilitate the safe passage of those who choose to leave.
