Nigeria Urges Citizens to Stay Amid US-Israel Iran Strikes

The Nigerian government, through the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has urged citizens stranded in the Middle East, particularly in Iran and surrounding countries, to stay put until a ceasefire is reached amid ongoing military strikes by the US and Israel against Iran. The conflict, which has entered its seventh day, has seen significant military actions, including missile and drone attacks.

NIDCOM spokesman Abdurrahman Balogun confirmed that the government is monitoring the situation and has received inquiries regarding evacuation arrangements. However, immediate evacuation remains challenging due to widespread security risks and airspace closures in the region.

The Nigerian government emphasizes its commitment to protecting its citizens abroad and will initiate evacuation operations once the security environment improves. The conflict has also led to increased oil prices, with Brent crude surpassing $90 per barrel, highlighting the financial implications of the ongoing military campaign.
