WARDC Urges Lagos to Lift Suspension on STOP Guidelines for Women's Health

The Women Advocate Research Documentation Centre (WARDC) urged the Lagos State Government to lift the suspension on the Safe Termination of Pregnancy (STOP) Guidelines, coinciding with International Safe Abortion Day. WARDC expressed concerns that the suspension endangers women's lives and restricts access to critical healthcare services for rape and incest survivors.

The guidelines were introduced to standardize medical practices in cases where pregnancies threaten women's lives but were suspended by the state government. WARDC emphasized the importance of lifting the suspension to prevent unsafe abortion procedures and reduce Nigeria's high maternal mortality rate.

The organization called for immediate action to ensure women's reproductive healthcare needs are met.
