Lagos State Reports Alarming Increase in Violence Against Women - Commissioner Urges Action

Lagos State Attorney General Commissioner of Justice, Lawal Pedro, disclosed a concerning rise in cases of violence against women from August 2024 to July 2025. The state recorded 243 cases of defilement, 244 cases of child abuse, 99 cases of rape, 48 cases of sexual harassment, and 25 cases of sexual assault.

Pedro emphasized the need to address this epidemic with serious social implications. The lack of understanding and enforcement of laws contributes to the prevalence of such crimes.
