Rooney Calls 2010 World Cup in South Africa His Worst

Wayne Rooney, the former England striker, has labeled the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa as his worst World Cup experience. In his reflections, Rooney noted the unique atmosphere created by the vuvuzelas but criticized the overall environment, stating it felt worse than any other tournament.

He recalled the lack of fans during England's first match against the United States, which ended in a 1-1 draw, describing the atmosphere as "dead." England's campaign continued with a 0-0 draw against Algeria and a narrow 1-0 victory over Slovenia, allowing them to advance. However, they were eliminated in the Round of 16 after suffering a 4-1 defeat to Germany.

Rooney did not score during the tournament, which also saw the premature exit of African teams, notably Ghana, who lost to Uruguay in the quarter-finals. His comments come as anticipation builds for the upcoming summer World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
