Ndidi Focuses on Preparation Amid World Cup Uncertainty

Wilfred Ndidi, the captain of the Super Eagles, stated that the team is concentrating on their preparations for the upcoming intercontinental playoff for the 2026 World Cup, despite uncertainties surrounding their qualification status. Nigeria missed automatic qualification after losing to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the African playoff final via penalties.

However, a potential lifeline has emerged as the Nigeria Football Federation filed a petition regarding the DR Congo's advancement, citing alleged improper player nationality switches. The FIFA verdict on this matter is expected within 20 days, just before the playoff scheduled for March 26 to March 31 in Guadalajara and Monterrey, Mexico.

Ndidi emphasized the importance of focusing on what the players can control and expressed confidence in the Nigeria Football Federation to handle the situation appropriately. The Super Eagles are also set to participate in a four-nation tournament during the March international window, with a match against Iran on March 27.
