Obidient Movement Denies Arrest Plot Against Peter Obi

The Obidient Movement has responded to allegations of a plot to arrest Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate, asserting that he has no criminal record and is not under investigation for economic or financial crimes. Tanko, a national coordinator of the movement, emphasized that the claims made by security agencies, including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS), are unfounded.

This clarification comes amid reports suggesting that Obi, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is being targeted as part of a broader political strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections. Tanko indicated that the allegations may be part of an intimidation tactic against opposition figures, including prominent individuals like former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who are also mentioned in a watchlist.

He expressed concerns about a potential manipulation of the electoral process favoring the ruling party.
