Bauchi State Denies Fixed Dowry Claims for Women

The Bauchi State Government has officially refuted claims regarding the establishment of a fixed dowry for women, particularly a viral video suggesting that Governor Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed approved a dowry of ₦1,500 for divorced women. The video, described as misleading and circulated by mischief-makers, also included allegations about dowries for single women and directives from a traditional ruler.

Engineer Muhammad Binni Abdulkadir, the Commissioner for Religious Affairs and Societal Reorientation, addressed journalists in Bauchi, labeling the claims as entirely false and fabricated. He emphasized that the Bauchi State Government has never issued any directives concerning dowries and urged residents to disregard the misinformation.

Abdulkadir highlighted that Governor Mohammed has consistently respected the cultural values and traditions of the people of Bauchi State. He called on the public to act responsibly by verifying information before sharing to prevent the spread of falsehoods that could disrupt peace and unity in the state.
