UNIJOS Confirms Loss of Two Students in Jos Unrest

The University of Jos (UNIJOS) reported the tragic loss of two students, Abel Gershon and Adeyomo Temitop, during recent unrest in the Angwan Rukuba community of Jos, Plateau State. Vice Chancellor Prof.

Tanko Ishaya disclosed this information during a press conference on March 29, following a gunmen attack that resulted in several fatalities and injuries. The state government imposed a 48-hour curfew in response to the violence, which reportedly spread despite the curfew being lifted on April 1.

Prof. Ishaya noted that four other students and a staff member were injured and are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

Abel Gershon, a 300-level student, was shot in the stomach and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, while Adeyomo Temitop, a 500-level student, was killed on April 1. The Vice Chancellor extended condolences to the families of the deceased and assured the university community of safety measures in place.

The academic schedule remains unchanged, with the resumption date set for April 13.
