Speaker Abbas Tajudeen Urges Electoral Reforms Ahead of 2027 Election

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Abbas Tajudeen, emphasized the urgent need to finalize electoral reforms before the 2027 general election. He highlighted the importance of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill to enhance measures against violence, improve access for persons with disabilities, and streamline dispute resolution timelines.

Additionally, the Reserved Seats Bill aims to increase female representation in the National Assembly by creating additional seats exclusively for women. Speaker Abbas aims to make elections less contentious, reduce costs, and ensure inclusivity.

These reforms also include establishing an Electoral Offences Commission. The goal is to produce a robust Electoral Act that withstands the test of time and promotes democratic processes in Nigeria.
