Tinubu Rejects Ransom Payments to Terrorists

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu stated that his administration would not pay ransom to terrorists, emphasizing a strategic approach to combatting insecurity in Nigeria. During a meeting with the Olubadan of Ibadanland and the Olubadan-in-Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu commended the armed forces for their successful rescue operation in Oyo State.

He noted that security challenges necessitate a review of strategies and operations. Tinubu announced the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight divisions to 12 to improve response times in the fight against terrorism.

He also revealed plans to establish state police to address local security gaps, ensuring safeguards against potential abuses. Additionally, he urged traditional rulers to enhance their roles in supporting security efforts and mentioned the strengthening of forest guards to tackle criminals hiding in forests.

Tinubu reiterated that ransom payments would not be part of the government's strategy against terrorism and kidnapping.
