Adeniyi Adeyemi Charged with Forgery in Nigeria's PFIPC Scandal

Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew has been charged with eight counts of forgery and impersonation for allegedly running a fictitious government agency, the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC). He claims his appointment was legitimate and has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Adeyemi, who is from Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Nigeria, previously served as Senior Special Assistant on Protocol to Governor Adeleke of Osun State but was fired within four to five months. For over a year, he operated from a federal office in Abuja, conducting meetings with foreign diplomats and Nigerian officials while presenting himself as the Director-General of the PFIPC, which the Presidency asserts never legally existed.

He also requested a note verbale from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate visas for staff. Adeyemi's past includes presenting himself as an ambassador for the World Youth Organisation, which the United Nations did not recognize.

He is currently remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja.
