Bala Mohammed Faces Pressure to Defect from PDP

Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Bauchi, is currently navigating significant political pressure regarding his affiliation with the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Samaila Adamu Burga, the PDP chairman, noted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has shown reluctance to accommodate Mohammed's political structure.

APC leaders, including Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, have made high-profile visits to persuade Mohammed to join their party, proposing a 60-40 share formula for control of the party structure. However, negotiations have not progressed, with Burga stating that the APC has not accepted the proposed terms.

Mohammed has also considered leaving the PDP due to unresolved internal disputes, which have included a failed convention in Ibadan. Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed interest in welcoming him, but discussions have not reached a conclusive outcome.

The APC's urgency stems from the potential loss of support following the defection of prominent figures like Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). Negotiations with the APC have reportedly collapsed, with no agreement on key demands, including settlement funds for federal projects in Bauchi.
