Social Media's Role in Modern Medical Practice Discussed

On July 28, 2026, Olusegun Adeniyi delivered a presentation as the guest speaker at the induction ceremony for foreign-trained medical and dental graduates organized by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) in Abuja. He congratulated the inductees for their commitment to serving Nigeria's healthcare system, especially during a workforce crisis where the doctor-to-patient ratio is approximately one physician for every five thousand people, far exceeding the World Health Organization's benchmark of one to six hundred.

Adeniyi discussed the dual nature of social media in medical practice, stating it can be a powerful tool for public health communication when used effectively. He provided examples of how social media can improve health awareness and patient engagement, such as using local languages on platforms like TikTok to educate the public about dental care.
