Nigeria Commemorates Fidel Castro's Centenary at NLC

On 13 August, various groups around the world commemorated the centenary of Fidel Castro Ruz, the Cuban revolutionary, with a significant event held at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Nigeria. The gathering included workers, professionals, political and human rights activists, and ambassadors.

Salisu Nuhu Mohammed, the National Chairperson of the Nigeria Solidarity Movement with Cuba, spoke about Castro's legacy, describing him as one of the most outstanding personalities of the Twentieth Century who dedicated his life to a better humanity. He noted that Cuba, despite being a small country, has withstood U.S. challenges and pressures that could have led to the collapse of other nations.

Mohammed emphasized the ongoing U.S. blockade against Cuba, stating that it aims to "deny Cubans oxygen," but asserted that the Cuban Revolution remains resilient. He called for Africa to show solidarity with Cuba, reflecting on Castro's enduring influence and the historical connection between Cuba and Africa.
