Northern Group Warns Against Alteration of Electoral Bill

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has expressed alarm regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding the Electoral Act amendment bill, warning that recent developments indicate attempts to tamper with provisions of the bill due to pressure from power interests. Prof.

T. Muhammad Baba Bodi, the forum's public secretary, criticized the legislature for surrendering its independence and allowing external forces to influence its work.

The ACF emphasized that any alterations to the bill undermine democratic norms and could damage public trust in Nigeria's electoral process. They called for strict adherence to constitutional provisions in handling the Electoral Act bill and highlighted that the current situation reflects a troubling trend of external influence on the National Assembly.

The forum warned that such interference could weaken confidence in the upcoming 2027 general elections and urged lawmakers to rebuild public trust during their tenure.
