Peter Obi: 2027 Election May Be My Last Presidential Bid

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, indicated during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics that the 2027 presidential election might be his final attempt at Nigeria’s highest office. He cited his advancing age and the need for younger Nigerians to take on leadership roles as key reasons for this consideration.

Obi, who will be 68 or 69 by the time of the election, expressed concerns about his ability to meet the demands of the presidency at that age, stating, “I don’t think I’ll have the energy I have today.” He noted that the outcome of the 2027 election would influence his political future but reiterated his belief in creating opportunities for younger leaders. Obi previously contested the 2019 election as the vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party alongside Atiku Abubakar before becoming the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023.

He is now the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress after leaving the African Democratic Congress.
