Oyo Governor Addresses Abduction of Schoolchildren and Teachers

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde disclosed that the pupils and teachers abducted from Baptist Nursery Primary School and Grammar School in Yawota Community on May 15 remain in captivity due to the difficult terrain of Old Oyo National Park. The governor's newsletter, released on Friday, indicated that intelligence reports suggest the victims have been held for nearly four weeks within the park, which spans approximately 2,500 square kilometers across ten local government areas in Oyo State.

The governor acknowledged the distress and anxiety experienced by the families of the victims, emphasizing that while the state government and security agencies are committed to rescuing the abductees, the challenging operational environment requires patience and strategic coordination. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, while cautioning against the circulation of unverified information that could hinder ongoing rescue efforts.
