Abuja-Kaduna Road Gridlock: Causes and Traveler Experiences

The Abuja-Kaduna road continues to experience severe gridlock, primarily due to ongoing rehabilitation work, heavy rainfall, and driver impatience. Travelers like Amina Abubakar reported spending six to nine hours on the road, significantly longer than the typical three-hour journey.

On Sunday, May 24, during the Eid al-Adha celebrations, Abubakar left Abuja at 6:30 AM and faced a congested route, leading to an uncomfortable experience. Imran Ahm, who traveled to Jere in Kaduna State, noted that construction work caused significant delays, with three-hour traffic jams reported at Jere junction.

Haruna Ibrahim described the journey as terrible, taking six hours from Abuja to Kaduna. Contributing factors include accidents, poor road conditions exacerbated by rain, and the high volume of vehicles.

Engr. Olabod Adeshina highlighted that the ongoing construction has lasted eight years, creating diversions that complicate driving.

The situation is further worsened by impatient drivers attempting dangerous overtakes, leading to accidents.
