BTS Declines 2027 Grammy Submission Over New Category

K-pop supergroup BTS has declared they will not submit their music for consideration at the 69th Grammy Awards, scheduled for February 2027, despite being eligible following the release of their comeback album. In a joint statement shared on Instagram by all seven members, BTS linked their decision to the Recording Academy's newly introduced Best Asian Pop Music Performance category.

They expressed a desire for music to be appreciated for its intrinsic value rather than being categorized by region or language. Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. expressed disappointment over BTS's decision but clarified that the new category was intended to enhance recognition for Asian artists, not to limit them.

He also mentioned that artists remain eligible for general Grammy categories even if they qualify for the new regional category. BTS has achieved significant success since their formation in 2010, including multiple Billboard Music Awards and American Music Awards.
