Court Dismisses Lizzy Anjorin's Defamation Case

On February 3, 2026, the Federal Capital Territory Chief Magistrate's Court in Abuja, presided over by Magistrate Sundai Adukwu, struck out a criminal defamation suit filed by Adebimp Audullahi against Nollywood actress Lizzy Anjorin, also known as Lizzy Anjorin. The court ruled that the case was incompetent and lacked merit, awarding N50,000 in costs against Audullahi.

Anjorin's lawyer, U.E. Ogboi, filed a preliminary objection challenging the court's jurisdiction to hear the matter.

Audullahi had accused Anjorin and Shakira Ayobami of criminal defamation, alleging they made false and malicious statements that breached public peace. However, the court found procedural flaws in the suit, noting that the complaint did not meet the requirements set out in the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.

The court criticized the jurisdictional grounds of the case, stating that the complaint could not withstand legal scrutiny and highlighted significant irregularities in the process. Consequently, the court dismissed the complaint and awarded costs against Audullahi.
