Delta Governor Advocates for New Army Division HQ

On Tuesday, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian Army to locate the headquarters of the newly created 83 Division in Delta State. During a meeting with a delegation from the Nigerian Army Headquarters, led by Major-General Thompson Ugiagbe, Oborevwori emphasized Delta's strategic location and the presence of critical oil and gas assets as reasons for the request.

He stated that the division's headquarters in Delta would enhance the Army's response to security threats in Delta, Edo, and Bayelsa states. The governor highlighted the state's infrastructure, including three airports and multiple seaports, as essential for security operations.

He assured the Army that the state government would provide land and support for the division's establishment. Ugiagbe confirmed that the visit was part of consultations following President Tinubu's approval to expand the Nigerian Army from eight to twelve divisions, with the new 83 Division overseeing Delta, Edo, and Bayelsa states.
