As of September 4, according to figures from Africa Facts Zone, South Africa has 1.3 million Netflix subscribers, the highest in Africa, while Nigeria ranks second with only 162,500 subscribers. This significant difference has ignited discussions on social media platform X, where users questioned how Nigeria, with a population of approximately 230 million, has fewer subscribers than South Africa.

Some users argued that economic conditions and spending habits differ between the two nations, while others noted that a larger population does not equate to higher subscription rates. Additionally, many Nigerians prefer watching Nollywood films on YouTube and other platforms, which may contribute to the lower Netflix numbers.
