Egbetokun Resigns as Inspector General of Police

The resignation of Egbetokun as Inspector General of Police was confirmed by the presidency, stating that he decided to leave the office to focus on family matters that need his full attention. Bayo Onanuga, a special adviser to the president, communicated this information.

The resignation letter was submitted on a Monday, following a private meeting between Egbetokun and President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja. Reports indicate that during this meeting, the police chief was asked to step aside temporarily.

Egbetokun was appointed as Inspector General of Police on June 19, 2023, succeeding Usman Alkali Baba, whose tenure ended in September 2023. Egbetokun previously served as Deputy Inspector General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department.
