Governor Lawal Defects from PDP to APC in Zamfara

Governor Lawal of Zamfara State has confirmed his decision to leave the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and join the All Progressives Congress (APC). This announcement was made through a statement from his media aide on Monday.

The Deputy Governor, Mani Malam Mummuni, was seen in a viral video praising the APC and celebrating the move alongside cabinet members. Governor Lawal attributed his decision to internal problems within the PDP at both the national and state levels, emphasizing that the switch to APC was made in the overall interest of Zamfara for stability and sustainable development.

He called for understanding and support from the people regarding his political decision. The statement reiterated Governor Lawal's commitment to security in the northwestern state.

With this defection, the total number of APC governors has increased to 31.
