Zamfara PDP Urges Governor Lawal to Join APC Amid Instability

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara is intensifying efforts to persuade Governor Dauda Lawal to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This push comes amid growing instability within the PDP at the national level, as several governors have recently switched allegiance to the APC.

Lawal is one of the few remaining PDP governors, alongside Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State. A recent closed-door meeting was held in Gusau with cabinet members and political stakeholders to discuss the future direction of the party in Zamfara ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The meeting reportedly concluded with an agreement to maintain opposition, although concerns about the state's access to federal resources were raised. The political landscape in Zamfara is further complicated by security issues, with persistent bandit attacks affecting the region.
