Customs Recruitment Delay Explained by CG Adeniyi

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, addressed the 20-month delay in the agency’s 2024/2025 recruitment exercise during a press briefing in Abuja. The recruitment process, which opened in December 2024 and concluded in August 2026, faced delays due to an overwhelming number of applications, administrative challenges, and the agency's commitment to selecting only qualified candidates.

A total of 3,852 candidates were selected from 573,680 applications. Adeniyi apologized for the prolonged wait, emphasizing the need for thorough screening and verification of each application.

The process included application screening, computer-based examinations, and credential verification against the national identity database. He noted that the competition was intense, with only 0.67 percent of applicants successful, and encouraged unsuccessful candidates to remain hopeful for future opportunities.
