Akpabio Explains Mpigi's Switch to APC at Funeral Service

During a funeral service held at the Anglican Church in Koroma Tai Tai, Rivers State, Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, revealed the reasons for Barri Mpigi's departure from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Akpabio described Mpigi as a loyal party member and a significant contributor to Senate debates and committee work, emphasizing his team player qualities.

He expressed condolences to Mpigi's family and noted that the National Assembly would hold a special day of tribute in honor of Mpigi, who passed away in February 2026. Akpabio also requested that the family be granted a day of tribute in the Senate, explaining that this request was necessary due to the Senate's recess.

Additionally, he announced a donation of N50 million on behalf of the Senate to maintain the church built by Mpigi, addressing an error in the funeral program and taking responsibility for it.
