Baba-Ahmed Explains Obi, Kwankwaso's PRP Decision

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the chairman of the People's Redemption Party (PRP), addressed the reasons why former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former New Nigeria People's Party presidential candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso did not join the PRP in preparation for the 2027 general elections. Speaking during a Hausa political program on DITV in Kaduna, Baba-Ahmed stated that both politicians approached the PRP for potential collaboration, but negotiations stalled due to disagreements over certain demands.

Specifically, Baba-Ahmed noted that Obi and Kwankwaso sought guarantees for the presidential ticket without facing internal competition, which the PRP deemed impractical. He emphasized that any aspirant must first become a member of the party and comply with its constitutional processes.

Baba-Ahmed also mentioned that both political camps had requested assurances for various party positions based on their support bases, but the PRP insisted on adhering to its internal democratic structures.
