Emejuru Urges Tinubu to Halt State Policing for Poverty Focus

Chris Emejuru, a public affairs analyst and chieftain of the opposition Action Democratic Party (ADP), has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately halt the state policing policy. In a statement made on Sunday, Emejuru emphasized that the Tinubu administration should redirect its resources towards combating poverty, which he argues affects the majority of Nigerians.

His remarks come as the State Police Bill is undergoing constitutional amendments in both chambers of the National Assembly, having already been passed to the 36 state Houses of Assembly. Emejuru stated that no amount of military resources would alleviate the hunger faced by desperate youth, asserting that addressing poverty is crucial for reducing insecurity.

He cautioned that while state policing could be beneficial, it should be approached with caution due to potential corruption. Emejuru stressed that tackling poverty should be the primary focus of the Nigerian government.
