INEC Explains Absence of Tinubu's School Certificates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) clarified that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's primary and secondary school certificates were not included in the documents published for the 2027 general election because they were not submitted by him. INEC stated that it only displays documents provided by candidates and lacks the authority to demand additional credentials or investigate missing documents.

The commission recently began displaying the personal particulars and academic credentials of presidential candidates, allowing the public to raise objections. A petition from the Centre for Reform and Public Advocacy, led by lawyer Kalu Agu, has requested INEC to clarify allegations regarding Tinubu's educational credentials, including his Chicago State University degree and NYSC discharge certificate.

The petition warns that legal action may follow if INEC does not publicly address these allegations. Tinubu previously addressed concerns about his Chicago State University certificate during a campaign event in London on December 5, 2022.
