UCH Resident Doctors to Resume Work After Strike Suspension

Resident doctors at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan will resume their duties at 8:00 AM on Wednesday after suspending a nationwide strike. Dr.

Uthman Adedeji, the president of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at UCH, confirmed this development in an interview on Tuesday. The decision to resume work came after an extraordinary meeting of the National Executive Council of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), where members resolved to suspend the strike action.

The nationwide strike was initially declared due to the federal government's failure to meet the association's demands, which included issues related to doctor welfare and remuneration. Key demands included the reversal of the revised profession allowance, payment of outstanding promotional salary arrears, and prompt disbursement of the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF).

Dr. Adedeji emphasized the commitment of resident doctors to patient care and urged the federal government to promptly address the issues raised by NARD to prevent future disruptions in Nigeria's health sector.
