NASU and SSANU to Begin Nationwide Strike on May 15

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) have declared a nationwide strike set to commence on May 15, 2026. This decision, announced in a circular signed jointly by Mr.

Peter Adeyemi, NASU General Secretary, and Mr. Moham Ibrahim, SSANU President, follows a meeting with the Minister of Education and government officials regarding unresolved demands.

The unions have expressed their dissatisfaction with the slow pace of renegotiation of the 2009 agreement and have rejected a 30% contract award, deeming it inadequate to address their members' concerns. The government has since withdrawn this 30% offer without presenting a new proposal or timeline for concluding negotiations.

The unions have directed their members to comply with the strike order and have established a monitoring team to ensure compliance.
