Wike's PDP Faction Rejects Oyo Court Ruling on Convention

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supported by Nyesom Wike has rejected a recent ruling by the Oyo State High Court, which upheld the party's convention scheduled for November 15-16, 2025. The faction, led by Moham Abdulrahman and Samuel Anyanwu, described the court's decision as inconsequential and lacking legal effect, particularly concerning the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The court, presided over by Justice Ladiran Akintola, granted relief to the claimants, including Folahan Malomo and Musbau Adetunmbi, but the Wike-backed faction argues that the judgment does not bind INEC and that two conflicting judgments exist regarding party leadership. They maintain that INEC has already complied with the federal high court's restraining order.

The faction plans to hold a fresh national convention to elect new party leaders on March 29-30, 2024, amidst ongoing legal disputes leading up to the 2027 general elections.
