Wike Faction Rejects Oyo Court Ruling on PDP Convention

The faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) led by Nyesom Wike has dismissed a recent judgment from the Oyo State High Court, which upheld the conduct of the PDP convention scheduled for November 15-16, 2025. The faction described the ruling as inconsequential and stated it does not bind the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a statement issued on Friday, the faction emphasized that the judgment has no legal effect and reiterated that the November 2025 convention is invalid, referencing earlier federal court rulings that barred INEC from monitoring the convention. The Oyo State High Court's ruling was delivered shortly after a decision on a joinder application, granting 13 reliefs sought by the claimants.

The Wike faction, which includes members of a caretaker committee formed on December 8, 2023, plans to conduct a fresh national convention on February 3, 2024, to elect new PDP leaders.
