Wike's PDP Faction Dismisses Rival Bloc, Convention Set

A faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with Nyesom Wike has officially dismissed the rival bloc led by Kabiru Turaki, stating that it does not exist. The faction insists that the PDP's national convention is set to take place on March 29-30, 2024, as planned.

This announcement highlights the deepening crisis within the opposition party as it prepares for the upcoming 2027 general elections. Moham Haruna Jungudo, spokesperson for the faction, reaffirmed the commitment to the convention, emphasizing that the current caretaker committee's legitimacy has been confirmed by a recent court ruling that nullified the rival leadership structure.

Despite a hardline stance, Wike's faction remains open to reconciliation with the Turaki-led bloc. The faction questions the legitimacy of any meetings convened by the Turaki group, arguing that actions taken outside the recognized structure cannot be upheld legally.
