Wike Calls NBA Conference a 'Flop', Defends Tinubu's Policies

On September 2, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, labeled the recent Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) conference in Port Harcourt a “flop.” He accused the NBA leadership of prioritizing politics over critical legal issues. Wike questioned the legacy of the current NBA president, contrasting it with his own achievements as FCT minister.

He expressed disapproval of the NBA's decision to invite former Rivers governor Rotimi Amaechi, citing his role in the prolonged closure of courts in the state. Wike also defended President Bola Tinubu's administration, particularly regarding the removal of fuel subsidy and the subsequent financial gains for states and local governments.

He stated that Tinubu lacks the constitutional authority to dictate how these governments spend their allocations and criticized former Anambra State governor Peter Obi for not holding state governments accountable for their financial management post-subsidy removal. Wike emphasized that the focus should be on how local governments utilize the additional funds received.
