Wike Orders Demolition of Criminal Hideouts in Abuja

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has declared a crackdown on illegal shanties along the Kukwaba rail corridor near Karmajiji in Abuja, which are suspected to be criminal hideouts. This directive came after an emergency high-level security meeting held on Friday, where Wike led heads of security agencies in assessing the area.

He emphasized that the FCT Administration would not tolerate criminal enclaves in the capital, describing the illegal settlement as a significant security threat that necessitates immediate action. Wike instructed the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, to collaborate with the Department of Development Control to demolish the illegal structures and secure the rail corridor against future reoccupation.

He noted that these shanties serve as hideouts for criminals who evade law enforcement after committing crimes. Wike urged security agencies to adopt a proactive, intelligence-driven approach to combat emerging security threats, stressing the urgency of preventing criminals from establishing a stronger presence in the FCT.
