Wike Announces Completion of FCT Magistrate Courts by June 2026

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), disclosed that the construction of three Magistrate Court buildings in the FCT is set to be completed by the end of June 2026. This announcement was made during an inspection tour of various court sites aimed at expanding judicial infrastructure.

Wike emphasized that the initiative directly responds to President Muhammadu Buhari's directive to ensure that the judiciary in the FCT is not hampered by a lack of space for the dispensation of justice. The tour included multiple sites, starting in Asokoro, where Wike noted that despite the challenging topography, construction is ongoing.

The project also includes the construction of 40 residential housing units for judges across the FCT, as well as efforts to increase the number of available courtrooms. Wike dismissed any insinuations that the infrastructural projects might compromise judicial independence, asserting that the executive branch supports the judicial sector to ensure prompt administration of justice.
