Appeal Court to Rule on PDP Leadership Dispute Today

The Appeal Court is scheduled to deliver a judgment today on a leadership dispute within the People's Democratic Party (PDP), which has been ongoing since November 15, 2025. The conflict involves factions aligned with Nyesom Wike and a caretaker committee led by Umar Damagum.

The Wike faction, which constitutes a 13-member caretaker committee, seeks recognition from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after the PDP's national secretariat was sealed by police. The legal battle has been prolonged, with a consolidated suit filed by three PDP members challenging the legality of the Ibadan convention that endorsed the caretaker committee.

The judgment is anticipated to clarify the party's leadership and influence its preparations for the 2027 general elections, with party members urged to remain calm. Bala Mohammed, chair of the PDP Governors' Forum, emphasized the importance of respecting judicial processes, while Funso Doherti called for an expedited ruling to provide clarity for party stakeholders.
