Wike Orders Arrest Over Jikwoyi Building Collapse

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has taken decisive action against the owner of a building that collapsed in Jikwoyi, Abuja. During a site visit on Tuesday, Wike ordered the arrest and prosecution of the owner, highlighting the government's commitment to safety in construction.

He stated that the plot of land would be seized and consultations with the local community would determine its suitability for public purposes. The building collapsed last Friday, resulting in several injuries, although no lives were lost.

Wike expressed concern over the construction of buildings without proper supervision and the use of substandard materials. He issued a warning of zero tolerance for developers who bypass legal channels and emphasized that the government would begin immediate demolition of unauthorized structures.

Wike clarified that no approvals existed for the collapsed building and urged citizens to follow the proper processes to ensure safety standards are met in construction.
