Wike Orders Shutdown of Abuja Site After Deadly Collapse

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, ordered the immediate sealing off of a construction site in Abuja after a three-storey building collapsed on Saturday morning in the Durumi 3 area near Gudu Market, resulting in five confirmed deaths and multiple injuries. Wike visited the scene on Monday, describing the incident as deeply unfortunate and confirming that enforcement actions, including arrests related to the project, have already commenced.

Preliminary reports indicated multiple fatalities and the need for a swift investigation to establish whether regulatory procedures were ignored. Wike emphasized the importance of adhering to building regulations, including proper soil testing and the use of approved materials, to prevent such disasters.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has begun legal actions against those connected to the construction, and a panel is expected to conduct a detailed review of the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
