Wike Unveils G5 Strategy Against Atiku and Obi in 2023

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State, disclosed the political strategies employed by the G5 governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 presidential election. Speaking in Abuja after inspecting infrastructure projects, Wike explained that the G5 aimed to prevent Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President, from fully capitalizing on the South-South region's support.

He emphasized that Atiku was viewed as a more significant threat than Obi, leading to a strategy that encouraged votes for Obi in certain areas to deny Atiku crucial votes. Wike noted the historical strength of the PDP in the South-South and expressed concern that a strong performance by Atiku could alter the election's dynamics.

He also mentioned that Rivers State was treated differently due to the potential implications of an Obi victory there. Wike rejected allegations of election rigging and challenged critics to provide evidence of Obi's claimed victory in Rivers State.
